MUD2 Real Estate: Where Would You Like to Live?

The idea for this little survey just came to me one day during a discussion in the tearoom. I thought it might be amusing (or at least interesting) to go and ask players the following question: If you could live in any building or area within The Land of MUD2, where would you live, and why?

I got a fair number of answers, many of which are reproduced below. Some players I asked didn't really have an answer, or they missed the point of the question by answering things like 'main bedroom' or 'diamond room'. But I got a good number of interesting responses. I might decide to ask more players for a followup in the next Muddled Times.

Anyway, here goes ...

First, Apeomancer's answer, taken from a log of an in-game discussion (he was Apeoguest at the time).

Apeoguest the guest says "(thinks a bit)".
Apeoguest the guest says "I think I'd take the Alpine Cottage".
Laura the warlock asks "Why would you take that?"
Apeoguest the guest says "It's so very, very cosy".
Apeoguest the guest says "I'd need to do something about that window though".
Laura the warlock nods.
Apeoguest the guest says "Plus there's a supply of cheese that gets refreshed
every 100 or so minutes".
Laura the warlock smiles.
Apeoguest the guest says "And some firewood outside if you need to stoke up
the fire".
Laura the warlock nods.
Apeoguest the guest says "Yeah, I'd really like spending a cosy afternoon with
the So Book of Spoons, some cheese, and the bottle of mead, up there".
Apeoguest the guest says "Mead's actually really, really nice ... I tried some
the other week".
Apeoguest the guest says "It's like alcoholic honey".
Laura the warlock says "The So Book of Spoons. It's silly, but mostly in a good way."
Apeoguest the surrealist guest says "Yep! In a good, parody sort of way".
Laura the warlock says "My favorite stories in that book are the Singing Sword and
the Vampire article."
Apeoguest the surrealist guest says "Best line : 'SO : It's a good thing the
scientist didn't think of looking at the princess underwater'".
Apeoguest the surrealist guest says "If not the cottage, I'd take the GFC".
Apeoguest the surrealist guest says "I've always wanted a mobile home".
Apeoguest the surrealist guest winks.
Laura the warlock smiles.

I got the following responses via MUDmail. First is Gemz ...

Laura,

The area of the land I would most like to live in would be around the bottom
of the waterfall.

Just the sound of the sea, secret inlet for solitude, and the shell groto and
gem route to the pub for a swift half.

Not a bad place to spot eagles either!

There short and sweet but hope that helps your poll.

kind regards

Rikku the necromancess....yikes now non pp and very scared.. lol

Footpad's answer, taken from an in-game discussion

Footpad the necromancer says "Somwhere remote...inhospitable probably".
Footpad the necromancer says "I like lurking in the graveyard and the
west-side of still-pool".
Footpad the necromancer says "same area really".
Footpad the necromancer asks "Will that do for an answer?".
Laura the warlock says "Well, they are close to each other, though one's underground."
Laura the warlock says "I suppose it would."
Footpad the necromancer says "Just put down the still pool".
Footpad the necromancer says "its nice and eerie".

Trinity's answer:

Trinity the warrior says "hmmm... I practically live in the Alpine cottage
when I play anyways".
Laura the warlock laughs.
Trinity the warrior says "Trying to think of where would be the nicest place
to live in the land, the alpine is just nice, but I dunno if I'd like to
really live there lol, maybe just hide.".
Trinity the warrior says "Let me look at my maps".
Trinity the warrior says "I know where I'd like to live, the chinese house".
Laura the warlock asks "And why is that?"
Trinity the warrior says "Because it's in a very peaceful, quiet area. Kinda
like a house hidden away in a Secret Garden type area".
Trinity the warrior says "Barring people visiting you with a talking hedgehog,
that area doesn't get much traffic".
Laura the warlock says "Well, it's not that much of a secret. One doesn't have
to unlock any doors or anything to get there."
Trinity the warrior says "Doesn't have to be a secret, it would just be nice
to stay. All the lovely walks nearby, the wildlife etc".

Even wizzes were not excluded from my questioning. I asked Karya, and she turned the question back on me. The following conversation includes both Karya's answer and my own answer...

Karya the melancholy witch says "Goodness, you're asking me?? But I'm not in
MA, AND I'm unprepared. However ... I do know the answer to this ...".
Laura the warlock says "It's not just for MA people."
Laura the warlock grins.
Karya the melancholy witch asks "ok, do you remember the ape area before the
pagoda?".
Laura the warlock nods.
Laura the warlock says "Yes."
Laura the warlock asks "It's the area with the ape forest and the statues, right?"
Karya the melancholy witch says "It's that area (not the whole of the ape
area, but around there and just north of there) before the pagaoda".
Laura the warlock nods.
Karya the melancholy witch says "the bamboo bridge (that's in my interview)
and around that area".
Laura the warlock says "Yes, that does seem like a quiet peaceful area."
Laura the warlock says "The cottage wouldn't be so bad, either...except for all those
rats in the cellar. (g)"
Karya the melancholy witch says "although the alpine cottage comes a close
second! I think in Winter I'd live in the alpine cottage and in the warmer
months I'd live outside near the bamboo bridge. Wander down to the tinkling
pool, take in the sight of lotus flowers".
Laura the warlock nods.
Laura the warlock says "Pretty good answer."
Karya the melancholy witch smiles.
Karya the melancholy witch says "thanks".
Karya the melancholy witch asks "and, what's your answer to your own
question?".
Laura the warlock says "Hmm...that's a tough one, really."
Laura the warlock says "I think the cottage wouldn't be so bad, aside from the
rat problem. And then there's the alpine cottage. A good place to get away
from it all."
Karya the melancholy witch nods.
Laura the warlock wonders, how many will give the inn as an answer.
Karya the melancholy witch asks "Has anyone given the dragon island as an
answer yet?".
Laura the warlock says "Hmm...I don't think anyone has."
Karya the melancholy witch exclaims "I bet Hawumph would!".
Karya the melancholy witch says "and Lestat if you came across him".
Laura the warlock says "Probably."

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to contact or run across Lestat in time for this article. However, I DID find Hawumph. Did he answer as Karya predicted?

Hawumph the onomatopoeic arch-wizard says "The Dragon Island. Because it is
sufficiently remote and hard to get to I don't get many visitors. Plus, me and
the Dragon, we're like >> << that.".
Hawumph the onomatopoeic arch-wizard says "Inseperable.".
Laura the warlock says "Somehow, I THOUGHT you'd give me an answer like that. (g)".
Laura the warlock asks "How did I know? (g)".

Well, I think it's probably best to let our onomatopoeic arch-wizard have the last answer for this month. If anyone else has some ideas as to which building or area in The Land they'd like to live, feel free to MUDmail me in the game. If I get enough responses, they just might make their way into a second installment of MUD2 Real Estate.
